Poker is a gambling game where players try to make the best poker hand. The highest hand wins the pot.<\/p>\n
The game is played with a standard deck of cards, which may be face up or face down depending on the variant being played. In the most common form, each player is dealt five cards face down. A first betting interval occurs, and then a showdown, during which the highest hand wins the pot.<\/p>\n
In poker, the rank of a hand is determined by its odds (probability). A straight is the best natural hand; a ‘wraparound’ or “straight-flush” of five cards, with an ace high, is considered a Royal Flush.<\/p>\n
There are many types of poker, and the rules of each vary widely. Most games involve a forced bet, called an ante, or blind bet. The ante may be small (a nickel is typical in our games) or large, and the amount must be equal to the number of chips that each player receives when they are dealt their cards.<\/p>\n
Betting rounds occur after the ante has been placed, and continue until all players call or fold. After all players have called or folded, the betting interval ends and a showdown begins.<\/p>\n
In addition to the cards themselves, every player has a tell that lets other players know what their hand is. It can be as simple as a change in posture or as complex as a gesture.
